Chronicle Books, San Francisco
1st edition, 1987
40 x 30cm
Gorgeous oversized book published in 1987 by Taishi Hirokawa in which the designs of Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Comme des Garçons and other experimental Japanese fashion brands are photographed on country people, from fishermen to school boys and shopkeepers. As 'anti-fashion' as it comes, the series of portraits has however become a source of reference and fashion inspiration although it also displays a little slice of life in the Japanese countryside at that time.
